SAFETY

Our Commitment to Safe Archery

Archery is a sport built on precision, and that starts with taking your gear seriously. Ovis Arrows™ are engineered to perform, but no arrow, from us or anyone else, is indestructible. A few minutes of inspection before every shot is the difference between a great day at the range and a trip to the ER. Read this page. Know it.

Inspect Every Arrow Before You Shoot

Damage happens. Impact with hard objects,  another arrow, the ground, or miss handling/ storage while traveling can weaken a shaft in ways you can't always see.

Before every single shot:

  • Grasp the arrow between the point and the nock

  • Flex it in an arc, away from yourself and anyone nearby, about 1 to 2 inches of deflection

  • Look and listen for cracks, splits, or splintering as you go

  • Run a fingertip along the full length, feeling for nicks, dents, or rough spots

Never shoot an arrow that shows any sign of damage. A compromised shaft can fail on release, and that failure happens fast, close to your hand and face. If you have any doubt at all, don't shoot it. Discard it.

Choose the Right Spine

Shooting an arrow spine that is too weak for your draw weight/length isn't just a performance issue, it's a safety issue! An under spined arrow is more likely to flex incorrectly and fail. Use Ovis's spine chart / fitting guide to match your arrows to your draw weight and draw length. Its safer to up a spine then go down in spines when increasing front of arrow weight .

This spine chart is recommended for arrows equipped with 50 grain insert with 100 grain tip. Any kind of addition to more weight added to the front of the arrow is recommended to up spine. It is always safer to have a stiffer spine than a weaker spine.

Know Your Target, and What's Behind It

Never aim a bow at a person or anything you're not prepared to shoot. This sounds obvious until it isn't. Before you draw, make sure you have full visual contact with your target and a clear, unobstructed shooting lane, and that you know exactly what's beyond it.

Cutting Your Arrows Safely

If you're cutting Ovis shafts to length, use a high speed arrow cut off saw only. Any other cutting method risks damaging the carbon and compromising the shaft's integrity, even if the damage isn't visible right away.

Currently, there are no safety recalls on Ovis Arrows™ products.
